How do we handle the traditions of men? I prefer to follow the word of God. I went to a religious Institution for college and it was a Wesleyan Methodist University. Thus we studied about John Wesley and his interpretation of the Bible. When I study the Bible I prefer to study it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. As such I rejected the traditional teachings of Wesley. The Holy Spirit teaches me comparing spiritual things with spiritual. By way of an illustration, the Holy Spirit will take me to an Old Testament reference and then compare it to a new testament text. Therefore I prefer the teaching of the Holy Spirit to any man-made Institution. Do I now seek to persuade men or God? That is a question from Galatians 1:10. If I still pleased men, I would not be a servant of Christ. That’s pretty clear-cut. Often times in church today we have the Pharisee type of religion.
Those that do such a thing follow the law of Moses to the letter. The New Testament teaches us that the letter kills but the spirit gives life. Which would you prefer? I shudder to think of how you might answer that question because some people are so used to the rules and regulations of their Church superseding scripture. That should not be so. Then there are those in church who are so tolerant of sin that it makes me sick. These are the affirming churches who will affirm nearly everything but the word of God which is often out of season in those churches. Paul said that that we are to preach the word both in season and out.
Are you a Pharisee of the false love that has invaded the church? Are you part of the solution or part of the problem? Until we get back to speaking the truth in love the church will flounder and be without any power whatsoever. There’s a caution flag here though because remember the seventy whom Jesus sent out.
They returned with great joy saying, even the demons are subject to us in your name. I can almost imagine how Jesus looked at them shaking his head. Do not rejoice in this that the spirits are subject to you but Rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Absolute power corrupts. They were more joyful in the power they were given then the fact that they were serving Jesus Christ. When one is given power they can become Power Mad which destroys the gift. Simon the Sorcerer was like that as he wanted the power to make himself look great. He even asked to buy this power. Your money perish with you because you thought you could buy the power of the spirit. You can’t. The power of the spirit in my life issues understanding and to know scripture better by the day. Sanctify them by your word. That is found in John 17:17 which means set them apart by Your Word. Your word is truth. To me that is the power of the Holy Spirit. When he the spirit of Truth has come he will guide you into all truth from John 16:13. Do I follow the tradition of men? Absolutely not because then, I would not be a servant of Christ.
2nd Timothy 2:15 says, study to show thyself approved by God rightly dividing the word of Truth. That is what Ezra was doing as he first was studying the Hebrew texts of scripture which he would next put into practice
Practice and teaching are outgrowths of study. Walk as children of light. You shall know them by their fruits. Ezra then taught what he had learned and practiced. He was unable to rightly divide the word of God because that came later. Still he had to keep the Hebrew texts of scripture in context. How often do you study the word of God? I’m not talking about reading but studying it. You take the time to go behind the English into the Hebrew words. You cross reference from one verse to another. In Ezra’s day they did not have the Holy Spirit as we do today. The Holy Spirit guides you into all truth. But the first component to understand the Bible is to study is perhaps one half hour a day that will enrich your lives draw you closer to God.
Have you found your significant other yet? Do you know that the early Israelites had a PG 30 rating on this book called The Song of Solomon? I believe it was due to its suggestive language although flowery and poetic. A junior high teacher in Sunday School wanted to teach this to his students but the Pastor said no. He also knew of the power of the words of this book. In fact if a husband and wife read this book together once per month it would enrich their marriage greatly.
Have you found this precious love? When I found the one I love, I held him and would not let him go. What passionate love!
What can separate us from the love of God? Even so it Remains the Same with husband and wife if the commitment is there in Chr
Here is a reminder from 1st Corinthians 7 14 that an unbelieving spouse can be Sanctified by the believing spouse. Oh the depths of spiritual love! Just make sure of one thing and that is that you don’t use all the verses of the Song of Solomon in describing your spouse. For example, your waist is a Heap of wheat or your nose is like the Tower of Lebanon. Descriptions like that can send you to the couch for the night. But the wonderful versus far outweigh the others even so discernment must be exercised. What wondrous love is this oh my soul.
Today I had an interesting thing happen to me. I ate a normal breakfast but the bacon was not well done part of it got caught in my esophagus. Normally this would call for a certain type of medicine that breaks it up. The last time I had it I drink a glass of water with the interior of the pill in the water. It also got caught in my throat and I began choking and gagging as the medicine had no place to go. I began to pass out when all of a sudden the passageway opened up and I could swallow again. It was very scary and I didn’t want to go through that again today. I ate breakfast at 8 in the morning and then could not swallow anything again. Everything came up that I tried to swallow. I didn’t want to take that medicine after what had happened the last time. The alternative was going to the hospital. Finally I thought of Prayer in regards to a healing. I’m really down on Ministries that heal because of what they represent. And they really bring down the name of Jesus Christ by their actions. These are the Benny Hinn’s land Joyce Meyers who make a mockery out of healing by somehow turning it into the Prosperity Gospel for them. At this point though I did turn to Jesus as a last resort and there was a vacancy there. I focused on him deeply and in his name prayed that the obstacle instructed my esophagus what depart and it actually did. I have been healed in minor things before but never something like this. All morning long I couldn’t swallow anything and the hospital was a last resort. Well, not really the last resort that was Jesus but he was still open to me and healed me and all praise and glory goes to him for what He did for me. Prayer to me has always been to glorify God. I will remember what he did for me today.
Oh yes, in the name of Jesus he will save you too and there is no other name under Heaven or Earth by which you can be saved straight up. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God
Are you spiritually hungry? If so open your Bible and study. Reading is part of study but not the only part. The Holy Spirit teaches comparing spiritual things with spiritual. He takes me from the Old Testament to the new and the New Testament to the old. I love to feast on the word of God.
Your words were found and I ate them and they were the joy and rejoicing of my heart for I am called by your name. His words are often called like honey in sweetness. That’s how they are to me. I hunger after the word of God and so should you. There is growth in God’s word to make you spiritually stronger.
Now that you’re strong you can ask for the ancient paths where the good way is and then walk in it so you can find rest for your soul. But a great many people say, We will not walk in it. The natural man does not receive the things of the spirit of God for they are foolishness to them. What a Sad dilemma for them.
Sometimes when I get weary of beating my breasts Against the Wind to try and edify the body of Christ and to warn against the dangers, I sometimes get spiritually fatigued. Yet his word in my heart is like a burning fire and whatever I do to try to understand it I cannot. I may be fatigued but his word rules my heart and is like honey in sweetness. Feast in God’s word, then walk in the good way where the almighty is, and even if fatigued, allow the Holy Spirit In You To Boldly Proclaim his word. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me according to Philippians 4:13. In Christ you have peace but in the world tribulation or troubles and pressures. But be of good cheer for Christ has overcome the world. Amen amen!
Romans 10:17 says, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Many churches today have topical sermons with very few, if any, quotations in Scripture. They are the ear tickling sermons. Have you ever heard of Seeker sensitive churches? A pastor who just resigned last week due to sexual misconduct was in charge of a Seeker sensitive Church. That means the pastor asked the congregation what they would like to hear preached. He wasn’t concerned with what they needed to hear preached. That is why there is a famine in the land today. Many pastors no longer refer to the Bible in their sermons. The why is simple. They choose not to have sound Doctrine in the church. They want to hear smooth things that do not interfere with the way they live. Today you find that a good bible-believing church is very difficult to find. You won’t find large congregations but what you will find is spiritual growth. Personally I would choose spiritual growth over a full congregation that is pablum fed. What about you?
The majority of Jews today still reject Jesus Christ as their Messiah. Many Gentiles reject him as well. There is a cost to that rejection especially at this present time. I believe we’re getting close to the time of the rapture. Jesus said, as it was in the days of Noah so will it be in the day of the son of God. Every thought of his heart was only evil continually. A man’s heart is desperately wicked who can know it? The Lord knows our hearts and he knows who will accept him and who will not. Those who do not accept him will be going through the Great Tribulation or the time of Jacob’s trouble. One would think that after all his miracles, feedings, and signs that everyone will accept him. The Bible says, when Jesus was at the Passover many believed in him when they saw the signs which he did. But Jesus did not commit himself to them for he knew all men. Jesus knew that these people were only there for what I call the entertainment value of Christ. They were there for all the Wonders that he did. But despite all that his own people rejected him as do many people today. If we deny him, he will deny us. Some will not believe in him even when going through the horror of the tribulation hour. That’s hard for me to comprehend but it shows the hardness of a man’s heart. That heart can only be softened by accepting Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. If you are one of those that are reading this right now consider your ways as the prophet Haggai once said. Consider your ways then choose Jesus who will give you eternal life with him. Please consider your ways in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
I attend a house Church that is a true Bible Church. And by that I don’t mean that we’re the only true church. What I mean by a true church is that we study the scriptures. We have both the Greek and Hebrew lexicon on hand to go behind the English words to the original language. When Paul said, I would rather speak five words with my understanding then 10000 words in a tongue, he was definitely on the right track. Sometimes our entire Bible Church session covers only one verse and we look at each and every word in that verse. The method of our study is expository, that is verse by verse and we keep it in context which is very important. We also examine who the author is trying to reach as to his audience.
For example, the entire Old Testament was written to the Jews with the exception of Jonah and Nahum which were written to Nineveh. Are you aware that the four Gospels were also primarily written to the Jews. The same holds true from James to Revelation. And the first 8 chapters in Acts are also primarily for the Jewish people. In the Bible, that leaves Acts 9 through Philemon for the body of Christ. And that’s the Bible in a nutshell. Paul tells us that the entire Bible is written for our learning and only Acts 9 through Philemon is written for our Doctrine. In our home Church we are presently studying the book of Romans verse by verse. The number of people that Weekly attend is 15 and we break into 3 five-person groups. Then we come together as a group for prayer and communion followed by a fellowship meal. Lastly we have a Time for praise and testimony. That is our Bible Church. Do we take new members in? Yes we do however when the group reaches 30 members they break off into a new home Church. Many denominational churches are interested in growing their congregations. Our home Church is basically interested in growing together as a spiritual body. Some of us meet on Wednesday night at various homes for Bible study on a particular topic. I encourage all of you to find a Bible Church with no denominational ties as 1st Corinthians 1:10 recommends. I beseech you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you. Amen to that!
