At the Amazon Synod at the Vatican City Pope Francis has made a bold and courageous decision to give the matter of celibacy to prayer. This 1,000 year old doctrine will hang in the balance. Francis is not only concerned with the Amazon area but the Pacific area as well which have a difficult time recruiting single men.
Those against this proposal say it will ruin the priesthood and leave the door ajar for homosexual and female clergy. What if a married priest wanted to transferred from the Amazon area to Japan? Or a priest from Turkey wanted to go to the Amazon region?
I laud the Popes option and pray that priests should be married as the New Testament says. The husband of one wife. Did you hear the Pope citing that the Apostle Paul was the greatest missionary of the church ever?
