Peter Wears the Dunce Cap

Three times in Mark Jesus told of his coming death to his 12 disciples Peter among them. The same Peter that’s some Roman Catholics believe was given the church even though he didn’t understand what the gospel was at the time. Like the others he was in the dark. Peter even rebuked Jesus over this. Got tired of wearing the dunce cap I suppose.

At this time the 12 disciples were a little dense. They had no idea what Christ was talking about just like my friend Kent doesn’t. Well I gave him a question about what the gospel is and he had no idea and I had to show him 1st Corinthians 15:1-4.

Peter is the church and doesn’t understand the gospel message? Don’t fret because Paul does know it as Christ gave it to him directly. Who is that in the corner now? I think I saw the Apostle Peter pouting. No that isn’t Peter but it is Kent.

  1. Why would Jesus give his church to an apostle that didn’t even know what the gospel was? That’s why Peter didn’t get the church, Paul did.

  2. Be at peace. It is not a teaching of the Catholic Church that Jesus gave the Church to Peter! It is still Jesus’ Church that He built 2,000 years ago. (Matt.16:17-19) Jesus only delegated His authority to Peter to lead His Church. And He gave Peter the authority to define the Gospel. Speaking to ONLY Peter Jesus said.. “I will give to YOU the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatsoever YOU bind on earth will be bound IN HEAVEN.” (Matt 16:17-19) Jesus gave this ability only to Peter..not to everyone who owns a bible! As Peter later cautioned..”This book is not for private interpretation.” That would inevitably lead to hundreds of Denominations who can not all agree on ONE Christian doctrine! Oh wait! That IS what we have today because of private interpretation. It is called Protestantism!
As you said the Apostles didn’t get it for a long time. One day Jesus asked them “..Who do YOU say that I am?” The Apostles said nothing. They had no clue.. Until Simon/PETER spoke up and said..”You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered. “Blessed are you Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father who is in Heaven.” (Maybe..the first God-given, infallible proclamation of Jesus’ first Pope?) Was sinful Peter later dumped in favor of Christian persecuting Saint Paul to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles? To settle another dispute among the Apostles..”Peter rose and said, “Brothers” you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by MY mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the Gospel and believe.” (Acts 15:7)
